Theft: locks, the battery and where you park
A removable pack and a display are targets. GPS does not replace a lock or insurance, and it does not guarantee you get the bike back.

Stolen motorcycles in Hong Kong are often carried away whole, or lose the battery and the display. An electric bike adds an expensive pack that is obvious at the kerb.
Where is better?
- A lit motorcycle bay that people walk past, ideally with CCTV.
- Locked to something fixed, not only through a wheel that lets two people lift the bike.
- Do not leave a removable pack on the bike overnight.
Does GPS mean you can skip insurance?
No. A tracker can be removed, run flat or lose signal. Third-party insurance usually does not pay for your stolen bike. If you want theft cover, ask whether that policy includes it and whether the bike must be locked. See insurance.
What about the pack indoors?
Do not leave it in a corridor or an unlocked space. Charge as the manual says, clear of the way out. If the building bans batteries, do not hide one and charge it.
