Electric motorcycle journal

The same Hong Kong topics as the Traditional Chinese journal: plates, fees, insurance, commuting and charging. Shop prices and premiums follow that day's paperwork. This site does not take orders. Taiwan subsidy pages stay on the Chinese Taiwan edition.

Buying

Price, models, used bikes, rent or buy.

  1. 01Electric or petrol motorcycle in Hong Kong?Electric skips the petrol station. Petrol refuels faster and has more familiar parts. Short city trips are the real dividing line.
  2. 02Hong Kong electric motorcycles in 2026: price, licence fee, insuranceRegister the bike before you fall for the colour. First registration tax on electric motorcycles is fully waived until 31 March 2028. The yearly licence fee is HK$1,314.
  3. 03Electric motorcycle questions: charging, range, rules, repairsThe short answers first. Prices and premiums are not estimated here.
  4. 04Hong Kong electric motorcycles in 2026: range, price, registrationAsk whether it can be registered before you compare range. Two Segway-Ninebot prices are the dealer's 18 October 2026 sheet, not our price.
  5. 05Rent or buy an electric motorcycle? If you have not tried the commute or the charging, rent or borrow first. Buying makes more sense when you ride every week and the charge point is real.
  6. 06Used electric motorcycles: battery, papers, a proper lookPossible, if battery health, a clean transfer and the remaining warranty matter more than clean plastics.
  7. 072026 SurRon Ultra Bee Review: Hong Kong Plates, Removable Battery, Two-Up RidingA write-up of a rider video: 21.5 kW peak, about 140 km claimed range, 89 kg, 910 mm seat. Street legality depends on the Hong Kong-registered bike. We have not tested it.

Registration

First registration tax, licence fee, probationary licences, passengers and modifications.

  1. 01Modifications: legality, insurance and powerA lamp, a controller tune or a rack can need approval, and can void the warranty and the policy. Ask before you unbolt anything.
  2. 02Passengers, cargo and delivery on an electric motorcycleA pillion depends on the approved seat and on your licence. Do not assume a private motorcycle can take paid work.
  3. 03Hong Kong electric motorcycle tax, licence fee and insuranceFirst registration tax on electric motorcycles is fully waived until 31 March 2028. The yearly licence is HK$1,314. Insurance is at least third-party. We do not quote premiums.
  4. 04New riders: probationary licence, plates and what to practiseAn electric motorcycle is not a bicycle. You need the matching motorcycle licence, and a probationary licence has extra limits.

Insurance

Third-party, comprehensive, and why a P-plate quote is not a number we invent.

  1. 01Electric motorcycle insurance: third-party, comprehensive, P plateA road needs at least third-party cover. Comprehensive is optional. Probationary licences usually cost more. We do not quote premiums.

New riders

Commuting, range, rain, theft and day-to-day riding.

  1. 01Emissions, noise and the roadNo exhaust at the kerb is not the same as no emissions from building the pack or generating the electricity. Quieter is not silent.
  2. 02Riding an electric motorcycle in Hong Kong rainA waterproof rating is not a flood guarantee. ABS does not cancel a wet road.
  3. 03Theft: locks, the battery and where you parkA removable pack and a display are targets. GPS does not replace a lock or insurance, and it does not guarantee you get the bike back.
  4. 04Can an electric motorcycle commute in Hong Kong?Short trips with a fixed charge point can work. Cross-district riding with nowhere to plug in should not be decided by a slogan.
  5. 05Is electric motorcycle range enough for a Hong Kong day?A brochure figure is a test. Hills, wind and a pillion use energy. Plan on about 70 percent of the claimed distance.

Charging

Removable packs, charging cost, battery life and weather.

  1. 01Battery life, replacement cost and warrantyPacks age. Years of cover, whether you can replace the pack alone, and the price belong in the contract, not in a spoken promise.
  2. 02Summer and winter: what the battery doesHong Kong heat is the usual problem, not a long freeze. Charging a sun-baked pack hurts it. A cooler morning can also shorten the same trip.
  3. 03Hong Kong electric motorcycle charging time and costCharging time follows pack size and charger power, not a slogan. Home cost is your tariff times your kilometres.
  4. 04Are removable-battery motorcycles a good idea in Hong Kong?A pack you can carry home helps if you have no bay. You still have to live with the weight, the building rules, and theft.
