Hong Kong motorcycle charge points in 2026
September 2026: about 18,090 public chargers, with 11,666 medium, 3,291 quick and 299 high-speed. Most bays are for cars. Check Type 2, CCS2 and home charging.

Updated 22 October 2026. This page is about whether a Hong Kong electric motorcycle can use the public charger network. The counts come from the Environmental Protection Department’s sentence for the end of September 2026. Bays and tariffs change. Read the charging app on the day you ride.
How many public chargers are there?
The department says that at the end of September 2026 Hong Kong had about 18,090 public EV chargers for public use, including 11,666 medium, 3,291 quick and 299 high-speed, across 18 districts. The three named groups add up to 15,256. The page does not split the rest, so this article does not invent a fourth category. The list is on the department’s charger-location page.
Which bays can an electric motorcycle use?
- Type 2 AC is the common medium socket in malls, estates and public car parks. Check that motorcycles may park, that the cable reaches, how you start the session, and whether an overtime fee applies.
- CCS2 DC is a common fast plug. Honda WN7’s Hong Kong page lists CCS2, with 20% to 80% in under half an hour on the factory sheet. See the WN7 page.
- Home charging is the steadier plan: a 13A socket or a Type 2 wall unit, after the building manager and a registered electrical contractor confirm the meter, capacity and fire rules.
What does a session cost?
Public sites bill by kWh, by the hour or by the minute. Third-party maps have listed some CCS2 sites around HK$2.40 to HK$3.00 per kWh and some Type 2 sites around HK$2.40. Those are collected prices. The app on the day is the price. The October 2026 cap of HK$3.04 per kWh applies to high-speed bays for electric taxis and public light buses, which is a different scheme.
On a 9.3 kWh Honda WN7 pack, HK$3 per kWh is about HK$28 from nearly empty to full, before parking, service fees and overtime.
Can a motorcycle use a car charging bay?
When the plug matches the bike, the remaining questions are whether that car park allows a motorcycle to stand there, whether the cable reaches safely, and what the minimum charge and overtime fee are. Look at bay width, gun height, the ground and the lighting before you rely on the stop.
Do you need to book?
Many public sites do not take a booking, and busy hours still mean a queue. Check the network map before you leave. A free bay on the map can be taken by the time you arrive.
What should you check before buying?
- Ask the agent for the frame number and how Transport Department registration works for that bike.
- Match the plug: Type 2 or a household 13A socket for daily use, CCS2 if you want DC fast charging.
- Set up home charging if the building allows it. If it does not, map the bays near home and work.
- Visit one bay and look at width, cable length, the ground and the lights.
- Put the bike price, insurance, licence, electricity, parking and servicing on one sheet. See prices.
