Modifications: legality, insurance and power
A lamp, a controller tune or a rack can need approval, and can void the warranty and the policy. Ask before you unbolt anything.

No engine does not mean you can rewrite the controller. Structure, lights, the horn and the power can all fall outside the specification on the registration.
Who do you ask first?
- The maker or the agent: does this change cancel the battery and motor warranty?
- The insurer: does the policy still apply?
- Transport Department, or the inspection route they require: does this change need approval?
What goes wrong if you raise the top speed?
The controller and the pack may lose their protection, and the brakes, frame and tyres may not match the new speed. After a crash an insurer can refuse a claim for an undeclared change. A higher number does not mean it is still the bike you registered.
Is a top box or a phone mount a modification?
A small accessory is not always an approval item. Blocking a lamp, the plate or a mirror is not acceptable. If you are unsure, do not fit it. Cargo limits are in passengers and goods.
