Hong Kong electric motorcycle insurance: what to prepare

A quote checklist, not a live premium. Third-party cover is the legal minimum on the road. Comprehensive adds your own bike on the policy wording. A licensed insurer issues the price.

Riding an electric motorcycle on a Hong Kong road calls for third-party insurance. The bike sticker usually leaves that premium out. This page lists what to take to a quote. A licensed insurer or broker writes the premium.

What should you take to the quote?

  • Model, year and price, and whether the pack and accessories sit inside the sum insured.
  • Your age, how long you have held a motorcycle licence, and any no-claim discount.
  • A full licence or a probationary licence.
  • Private riding to work, or carrying goods and delivery. A change of use needs a new quote.

How do third-party and comprehensive differ?

Third-party cover responds to your legal liability for other people and their property. That is the minimum for the road. Comprehensive keeps that layer and, on the wording you sign, can respond to damage to your own motorcycle, with an excess and any named repairer. Read the schedule. Background is in the insurance note.

What else sits beside the premium?

  • The excess, including any extra for a young rider or a probationary licence.
  • Named riders, and what happens if someone else borrows the bike.
  • Whether the pack, charger and body accessories are inside the sum insured.
  • Private use and paid delivery on the same policy.
  • A required repairer, and how a total loss is valued.

The licence fee of HK$1,314 and the premium are separate bills. See tax, licence and insurance. Probationary limits are in probationary licences.
